What Is Platelet-Rich Fibrin?
Platelet-rich fibrin is the second generation of platelet-rich plasma that offers even greater results than its predecessor. A standard PRP treatment features a concentration of platelets, fibrin, and white blood cells. A PRF treatment boasts a higher concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, and a small number of stem cells as well. After PRF is extracted, it is left to congeal into a gel for 15-20 minutes and then immediately injected into the face or scalp. The treatment’s concentration of proteins and the process it undergoes makes it an excellent option for addressing both hair and face-related aesthetic concerns.
What Does Platelet-Rich Fibrin Treat?
Similar to PRP, platelet-rich fibrin is a superb choice for addressing aging signs in the face without artificial additives. Since PRF is extracted from your own blood, it is completely natural and fully recognized by your body upon injection. This treatment is commonly injected under the eyes and into the cheeks to reduce the appearance of aged skin. It can also be injected into the scalp to promote hair health and in some cases, regeneration.
How Does This Treatment Work?
Prior to a platelet-rich fibrin treatment, a single vial of blood is drawn from your arm. Next, the blood is placed inside a centrifuge which then separates the PRF from other blood components. Once the separation is complete, the PRF is harvested from the top of the vial and placed into a syringe. Afterward, it is injected into your skin. In some cases, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be combined with PRF for enhanced facial volume results.
What Can I Expect from Platelet-Rich Fibrin?
This treatment is commonly performed in a series of sessions, spaced roughly 6-8 weeks apart. Results usually last 1-3 weeks and the volume achieved from this injection treatment will essentially dissipate. However, long-term effects, such as skin tightening, collagen production, and enhanced skin quality, may take up to 3-4 months to be noticed. These results tend to last anywhere from 6-12 months. The visibility of expected benefits and results of the PRF treatment is typically seen after six weeks from the first session.
