DAXXIFY is daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm, a botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator FDA approved for temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines, the vertical frown lines between the brows. What DAXXIFY does for your face
Nobody comes in asking about their glabellar complex. They come in because someone at work asked what was wrong, or because they saw a photograph of themselves listening to a friend and looked furious. The two vertical lines between the brows carry more social information than anything else on the face, and most people have no idea theirs are doing it until they see it.
DAXXIFY softens the muscles pulling those lines together. It is botulinum toxin type A, the same family as everything else in this category, and what makes it its own product is the formulation: it is stabilized with a peptide rather than with human serum albumin. Its approved cosmetic use is that one area, the frown lines between the brows. [1]
Done well, the effect is that your face stops sending a signal you did not mean to send. Done badly, it drops your brow and gives you a heavy, surprised, or oddly arched look that everyone can see and nobody can name. The difference between those two outcomes is entirely in where the units go, which is the argument for having this done in a dermatology practice rather than wherever it is cheapest.
What DAXXIFY is good at

- Letting you still look like you have expressions, because frozen is a dosing decision and not an inevitability

How treatment works
We watch the muscle, not the line
We ask you to frown, raise your brows and relax while we work out which muscles are actually making the crease and how hard they pull. Some people have a strong pull on one side and not the other, and that is invisible unless someone looks for it.
Dose to your face
The muscles between the brows vary a lot in strength from person to person, so the dose follows what we measured rather than a standard chart. We also plan around where your brow sits, because treating the wrong muscle in this area is exactly how brows end up in the wrong place.
Review at two weeks
The effect builds over several days and settles by around two weeks. That is when we look at it and decide whether anything needs adjusting, rather than the same day, when nothing has happened yet.
When your result is actually your result. We book your review then, because that is the only honest moment to judge it and the only useful moment to adjust it.
How long does DAXXIFY last?
You will have seen a number for this, and the number you saw was probably bigger than the real one. Here is what the company that makes DAXXIFY actually claims, in its own words.
The manufacturer’s claim is six months, for at least half of people. DAXXIFY’s own marketing says “at least 50% of patients in clinical studies had no or minor frown lines 6 months after treatment,” and sells that as “as few as 2 treatments a year.” [2] Read the first half of that sentence again. At least half. Which tells you nothing about which half you are in, and that is not a criticism of the product, it is just what the number means.
The prescribing information adds the floor. DAXXIFY should not be given more often than every three months, and trial participants were followed through at least week 24. [1]
Duration is mostly about you, not the product. How fast you metabolize it, how strong the muscles are, how much you use them, how many units went in, and how many times you have had this done before all move the number, and they move it a lot. Two people treated on the same afternoon with the same product can be four months apart.
So we measure yours instead. You come back at two weeks, and we log what your face did and when. By your second or third treatment we know your interval specifically, which is more useful than any range in a brochure and is the actual answer to the question you are asking.
If a practice quotes you a firm number for how long a neuromodulator will last, they are quoting you a study population and calling it a prediction. We would rather find out yours.

The Coastal difference
Brow position is won or lost between the brows
Softening a frown line is easy. Softening it without dropping the brow or leaving a strange arch is not, because the muscles that pull the crease together are also part of what holds the brow up. That judgment comes from knowing the anatomy in front of you, and it is why the same product produces a good result in one pair of hands and a heavy, slightly startled face in another.
It also means being told when this is not your answer. If your line is etched into the skin and still visible when your face is completely still, softening the muscle will improve it and will not erase it, and the rest is a texture problem that needs resurfacing. If the shadow is deepening because the area has hollowed, a dermal filler or a collagen stimulator does more than another round of units. And if you are already happy with the neuromodulator you use, at an interval that suits you, we will tell you that switching to the newest product is not an upgrade.
How a neuromodulator result should be judged. One photo relaxed, one photo frowning as hard as you can. If a practice only shows you the relaxed one, ask for the other.
Is it right for you?
DAXXIFY is probably a good fit if:
- The lines between your brows show when you are concentrating, and people read them as a mood
- You want the frown softened without losing the ability to make a face
- You have used another neuromodulator and were not happy with the result or how quickly it went
- You want to start with something that wears off rather than something permanent
- You would rather have this done by a dermatology practice than by whoever is running a special
We will steer you somewhere else if:
- You have an infection or broken skin where the injections would go
- You have had a reaction to a botulinum toxin product before
- You have a neuromuscular condition, or difficulty swallowing or breathing, which needs real care here
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding, when we defer elective treatment
- Your line is a crease at complete rest, where this helps but resurfacing is the other half of the answer

What to expect afterward
There is essentially no recovery. You may have small red bumps at the injection sites for an hour or so, a bruise if you are prone to them, and a mild headache the first day. Then nothing happens for a few days, which is normal, and then it starts working.
In the first days, do
- Stay upright for the first few hours
- Let it develop before judging it, and keep your two-week review
- Tell us right away about any drooping or unexpected weakness
- Carry on with your normal skin care and sun protection
In the first days, don’t
- Rub or massage the injection sites
- Assume more units would have been better, because that is how faces end up looking treated
- Book a facial or a massage that presses on the area for a couple of days
- Ignore any difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing

What treatment costs
Neuromodulators are priced by the unit, and how many you need depends on how strong your muscles are rather than on how old you are. That is why we do not quote a flat price for an area over the phone: the honest number comes from looking at your face.
We also will not talk you into more units than your anatomy calls for, and we do not run treatment off a promotional price. If a smaller dose is the right one, that is the one you get.
