Rosacea

Getting the skin you want is possible with a little bit of help! While rosacea is quite common, it is still really poorly understood and often misdiagnosed. This condition appears in mid-life and is often characterized by facial redness and itchy skin bumps. If left untreated, it can develop further and lead to the appearance of inflamed papules and pustules on the cheek and nose. If this sounds familiar to you, we’re here to help. At Coastal Dermatology + Aesthetics, we offer professional dermatology services in a safe and comfortable environment. Schedule your consultation today and discover, happier, healthier skin.

How Does Rosacea Occur?

Rosacea typically occurs when your immune system is altered in some way. A protein called cathelicidin peptide is the main thing responsible for the appearance of this issue. When a lot of this specific protein is produced, the skin becomes inflamed and begins to develop enlarged vessels along with irritation. This immune response may be triggered by genetic, environmental, or a combination of both factors. Since it is a multi-factored skin condition, rosacea’s main cause is often difficult to pinpoint.

What Are the Signs?

Rosacea symptoms include facial redness, red bumps, pus, and skin irritation. Some people may experience ocular rosacea characterized by inflammation and bumps around the eyes. In both cases, this problem may feel very uncomfortable and be difficult to look at for most. If these symptoms sound familiar to what you’re going through, we encourage you to reach out to us and schedule an appointment. Our team is dedicated to helping you feel comfortable in your own skin again.
