Filler is one of our favorite aesthetic treatments that can transform your look. From plumping lips and sculpting cheekbones to filling in frown lines and areas with collagen loss, filler has a range that is rarely seen with other products and procedures.
However, not all filler is created equal. RHA, a dynamic newcomer with the ability to treat a range of skin types, ages, and conditions is proving to be a standout dermal filler in a sea of choices.
On a basic level, injectable fillers work by smoothing out wrinkles in the treated area by literally filling in the skin to plump or shape — hence the name dermal filler. The product is made up primarily of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is naturally produced by our bodies. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to store and retain moisture and gives skin that plump, hydrated look. As we age, however, the body loses HA. Filler can restore this lost volume in one fell swoop for up to 15 months.
RHA is particularly special because of its pure ingredient list with few chemical modifications. This development allows for gentle results that adapt to the natural movement of your face: Expect results to look, feel and blend like your own skin without the stiffness often associated with an “overly done” face.
Initially used and created by European doctors in 2015, RHA has made its way to America and is the first and only FDA-approved HA filler for dynamic deep folds and wrinkles. In simple terms, a dynamic fold or wrinkle is an area on the face where a lot of movement occurs — think smile lines and furrowed brows.
However, RHA isn’t one-size-fits-all, which is part of what makes the designer filler so appealing. There are three different RHA formulas titled 2,3,4 that are tailored to your precise needs.
RHA Level 2
The least heavy-duty of the bunch, RHA 2 is ideal for superficial smoothing, addressing cheek lines, smile lines, and best suited for those seeking lip augmentation. From a Layman’s perspective, this one is closest to other brand name fillers on the market — just with more HA and a natural feel.
RHA Level 3
RHA 3 is for more mid-to-deep injections in the dermis. It can be used to address more severe and dynamic facial folds and wrinkles including the corners of the mouth and nasolabial folds (areas with more pointed signs of aging than simply volume loss addressed by RHA 2).
RHA Level 4
RHA 4 can inject deep into the dermis as well as address superficial subcutaneous tissue for the correction of severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds, particularly hard-to-treat nasolabial folds and the lower face.
As with any aesthetic procedure, remember that the injector is just as important as the product itself. Every practitioner has different techniques and experience, so finding an injector whose work you admire is key.
